Can't Cha Say (You Believe In Me) - 보스톤 Boston / 1986

Can't Cha Say (You Believe In Me)는 US 록밴드 보스톤(Boston)이 1986년 발표한 3번째 스튜디오 앨범 <The Third Stage>에 수록한 곡으로  US 20위, UK 82위, 캐나다 88위 등을 기록했다. 더 크게 히트할 수도 있었는데 3번째 싱글인 게 아쉬운 감이 없지 않다. 기타와 보컬의 조화가 환상적인 곡이라 다수의 평론가들이 보스톤 최고의 곡들 중 한 곡으로 평가하고 있다. 

 

리더이자 기타리스트 톰 숄츠(Donald Thomas Scholz, 19470310)가 만들고 프로듀서를 맡았다. 숄츠는 기타 소리가 바이올린 소리처럼 들리는 록맨앰프 이펙터를 개발했는데, 이 곡에서 처음으로 그 효과를 사용했다. 이 곡을 듣고 있으면 브래들리 델프(Bradley Edward Delp, 19510612 ~ 20070309)의 목소리가 그리워지는 것 같다. 

 

가사는 사귀다 소원해져 연락이 뜸해진 시점에 상대에 대한 그리움을 표현하고 있는 것 같다. 인터넷 떠도는 글들을 종합하면 숄츠의 첫 부인과의 이혼 전 관계에 기초했다고 한다.
