Let’s Face The Music And Dance – Fred Astaire / 1936

Let’s Face The Music And Dance는 1936년 프레드 아스테어(Fred Astaire)가 발표한 곡으로 마크 샌드리치(Mark Sandrich) 감독의 영화 <Follow The Fleet> O.S.T. 수록곡이다. 2015년 텔레그라프 선정 ‘역사상 가장 위대한 곡 100’ 중 50위를 차지했다.

 

어빙 벌린(Irving Berlin)이 만들었고 영화 속에서는 프레드와 진저 로저스(Ginger Rogers)가 춤을 추는 장면에서 사용되었다. 허버트 로스(Herbert Ross) 감독의 1981년 영화 <내 사랑 시카고(Pennies from Heaven)>에서 스티브 마틴(Steve Martin)이 프레드의 버전을 립싱크 한다.

 

프레드의 버전과 비슷한 시기에 테드 피오 리토 오케스트라(Ted Fio Rito & His Orchestra)가 연주하고 스탠리 힉맨(Stanley Hickman)이 노래한 버전이 히트했고 냇 킹 콜(Nat 'King' Cole) 버전이 1990년 영국에서 히트했다.

 

가사는 현재를 누리라는, 카르페 디엠(Carpe diem), 혹은 아모르 파티(Amor Fati)를 주제로 한 것으로 보인다.
