Autumn – Strawbs / 1974

Autumn은 영국 프로그레시브 록그룹 스트롭스(Strawbs)가 1974년 발표한 <Hero And Heroine>에 수록한 곡으로 국내에서 적잖은 사랑을 받았다. 곡은 8분여간 Heroine’s Theme, Deep Summer’s Sleep, The Winter Long 3부작으로 되어 있고 The Winter Long을 Hold On To Me란 제목의 싱글로 발매했다.

 

곡은 팀의 리더인 데이브 커즌스(Dave Cousins)와 키보디스트 존 호켄(John Hawken)이 만들었고 데이브와 톰 알롬(Tom Allom)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. (A) 부분은 존이 무그 신디사이저로 연주를 했고 (B)는 데이브가 (C)는 팀에서 기타를 치는 데이브 램버트(Dave Lambert)가 각각 보컬을 맡았다.

나무들은 초록사이로 갈색의 흔적을 보이기 시작해

Bringing back the memories that only you and I have seen

너와 나만이 아는 추억을 되돌려주지

 

I sense Autumn coming on, the sun sinking red and deep

가을이 오는 걸 느껴, 해가 붉고 깊게 지고 있고

The fires burning in the fields as late summer falls asleep

늦은 여름이 잠들면서 들판엔 불이 타고 있어

 

The leaves begin to scatter as the north wind calls their name

북풍이 이름을 부르니 나뭇잎들이 흩어지기 시작해

Folding gently back into the silent earth from which they came

자신들이 왔던 조용한 땅으로 살며시 다시 접혀 들어가면서

Still waters flow, sea breezes blow, wild flowers grow, abundant at your feet

잔잔한 물이 흐르고, 바닷바람이 불고, 야생화가 네 발에 풍성하게 자라

Soft falling snow, warm candle glow, flushed faces show the pleasure when we meet

눈이 소복소복 내리고, 따듯한 촛불이 빛나고, 우리가 만날 때 네 붉은 얼굴이 기쁨을 보여주지
