Stand Up - Cynthia Erivo / 2019

Stand Up은 UK 뮤지션 신시아 에리보(Cynthia Erivo)가 2019년 발표한 곡으로 골든 글로브, 아카데미 주제가상과 그래미 영상음악상 부문 후보에 올랐다. 앞의 두 부문은 엘튼 존(Elton John)의 (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again이 받았고 그래미는 빌리 아일리쉬(Billie Elish)의 No Time To Die가 받았다.  

 

신시아가 주연한 카시 레몬스(Kasi Lemmons) 감독의 영화 <해리엇(Harriet)>의 주제가로 신시아와 조슈아 브라이언 캠벨(Joshuah Brian Campbell)이 만들고 윌 웰즈(Will Wells)와 게이브 폭스-펙(Gabe Fox-Peck)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 신시아는 2017년  노예제 폐지론자이자 활동가인 해리엇 터브먼(Harriet Tubman)의 삶을 그린 영화 <해리엇>에 캐스팅 된 뒤 영화의 엔딩을 위해 이 곡을 만들었다. 

 

가사는 노예 신분에서 자유인의 신분을 갖기 위해 각고의 노력을 하는 화자가 누구보다 먼저 힘이 있는 위치에 가서, 자신과 같은 처지의 사람들을 이끌 수 있는 자리를 만들겠다고 선언하는 내용인 것 같다. 독립운동가 김구 선생님의 어록 "눈 덮인 들판을 걸어갈 때, 함부로 어지럽게 걷지 말지어다. 오늘 내가 디딘 발자국은, 언젠가 뒷사람의 길이 되니라"가 떠오른다.
