Anxiety - 도우치 Doechii / 2019

 

Anxiety는 US 뮤지션 도우치(Doechii, Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, 19980814)가 2019년 발표한 곡으로 소셜 미디어에서의 폭발적인 반응을 감안해 2025년 발표한 세번째 믹스테이프 <Alligator Bites Never Heal (Extended)>에 수록했다. UK 3위, 아일랜드 4위, US 10위, 캐나다 13위 등을 기록 중이다. 2023년 US 래퍼 슬리피 할로우(Sleepy Hallow)가 도우치와 함께 같은 제목으로 발표해 UK 15위, US 40위 등에 올랐다. 

 

도우치(Winnie Holzman)가 주도적으로 만들고 루이즈 본파(Luiz Bonfá)의 Seville을 샘플링해 만든 오스트레일리아 뮤지션 고티에( Gotye)의 Somebody That I Used to Know를 샘플링했다. 도우치는 인스타그램에서 "제가 올린 초기 유튜브 버전은 성공하지 못했는데 슬리피의 버전이 폭발했고 사람들이 원본을 찾아서 풀 버전을 공개합니다"라는 식으로 말했다. 

 

가사는 누군가 자신을 감시하고 있다는 생각을 갖고 있기 때문에 불안하다고 말하는 내용인 것 같다. 스토커에 대한 노래일 수도 있지만 가사로 봐서 전직 뉴욕 경찰 대니얼 팬털레오(Daniel Pantaleo)에 의해 목졸려 숨진 아프리카계 US인 에릭 가너(Eric Garner)에 대한 추모 혹은 저항의 의미가 크기 때문에 "somebody"나 "Anxiety"는 경찰로 봐야 할 것 같다. 이 사건으로 인해 "Black Lives Matter" 문구가 등장하고 대니얼은 파면되었다. 뉴욕시는 민사합의금으로 590만 달러를 지불했고 대니얼은 불복하고 소송중이다.
