Mandolin Rain - Bruce Hornsby & The Range / 1986

Manolin Rain은 브루스 혼스비(Bruce Hornsby)와 밴드 레인지(The Rainge)가 1986년 발표한 데뷔 앨범 <The Way It Is>에 수록한 곡으로 US 4위, AC 1위, 연말결산 65위, 캐나다 14위, UK 70위 등을 기록했다. 밥 골드웨이트(Bob Goldthwait) 감독의 2009년 영화 <지상 최고의 아빠(World's Greatest Dad)>에 브루스가 까메오로 출연했고 이 곡을 사용했다. 

 

브루스와 동생 존 혼스비(John Hornsby)가 만들고 브루스와 엘리엇 쉐이너(Elliot Scheiner)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 게스트 뮤지션 데이빗 맨스필드(David Mansfield)가 만돌린을 연주했다. 윌리엄 벨(William Bell)의 You Don't Miss Your Water에 영향을 받은 것으로 보인다.  

 

가사는 만돌린(손가락 또는 피크를 사용해 연주하는 현악기) 소리같은 빗소리를 좋아하던 연인을 그리는 내용이다. 두 사람은 비를 즐기며 친밀한 시간을 보냈지만 결국엔 추억으로만 남았다. 상대가 떠날 줄 알았고 떠났지만 화자의 마음은 여전히 진행형인 것 같아 보인다.
