Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through - Meatloaf / 1993

 

Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through은 US 뮤지션 미트 로프(Meat Loaf, Michael Lee Aday, Marvin Lee Aday 19470927 ~ 20220120)이 1993년 발표한 6번째 스튜디오 앨범 <Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell>에 수록한 곡으로  캐나다 4위, UK 11위, US 13위, 연말결산 71위, 아일랜드 19위 등을 기록했다. 

 

짐 스타인맨(Jim Steinman, James Richard Steinman 19471101 ~ 20210419)이 만들고 프로듀서도 맡았다. 레니 피켓(Lenny Pickett)이 색소폰 솔로를 연주했다. 뮤직비디오는 마이클 베이(Michael Bay)가 감독을 맡았고 영화배우 안젤리나 졸리(Angelina Jolie)가 출연했다. 짐이 1981년 솔로로 발표했던 버전을 리메이크 한 것이다. 원래는 짐과 미트 로프가 함께 만들었으나 짐에게 주는 대신에 미트 로프가 Dead Ringer For Love를 부르기로 했다는 설이 있다. 

 

가사는 대부분의 매체에서 외롭고 힘들 때 음악이 주는 힘에 대해 말하고 있는 것 같다. 개인적으로는 음악을 업으로 하는 상대가 작곡이 잘 되지 않아 모든 걸 포기하고 도망치려고 하자 화자가 음악은 신이 준 선물이고 계속 포기하지 않고 하면 잘 될거라고 다독이고 격려하는 내용인 것 같다. 미트 로프는 멜버른과의 인터뷰에서 "가사는 꿈에 관한 것입니다. 어떤 일이 일어나든, 성공하든 실패하든 항상 꿈을 이룰 기회가 있다는 생각입니다. 그래서 희망과 영감으로 가득 차 있죠. 아무리 힘든 일이 있어도 꿈을 포기해서는 안 된다는 내용이예요"라고 말했다. 짐은 "음악의 힘, 그것이 어떻게 당신을 다른 곳으로 데려다 줄 수 있는지에 관한 내용입니다. 삶이 원하는 대로 되지 않더라도 음악은 계속 나아갈 수 있는 희망과 영감을 줄 수 있고 무슨 일이 일어나더라도 사람들이 항상 음악에 의지해 영혼을 고양시킬 수 있다고요. 그런 생각을 말하고 싶었어요"라고 말했다.
