Nowhere Fast – Fire Inc. / 1984

Nowhere Fast는 파이어 잉크(Fire Inc. Fire Incorporated)가 1984년 발표한 곡으로 월터 힐(Walter Hill) 감독의 영화 <스트릿츠 오브 파이어(Streets Of Fire)>의 주제가다. 해외에선 별 반응이 없었지만 국내에서 큰 인기를 누렸다. 같은 해 US 록 가수 미트 로프(Meat Loaf)가 다른 스타일로 리메이크 해 UK 67위에 올랐다. 2005년 조혜련이 노웨어패스트로 번안해 불렀다.   

짐 스타인만(Jim Steinman)이 곡을 만들고 지미 아이오빈(Jimmy Iovine)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 파이어 잉크는 지미가 영화를 위해 만든 팀으로 엘런 에임(Ellen Aim), 로리 서전트(Laurie Sargent), 홀리 셔우드(Holly Sherwood)로 구성되었다. 홀리가 리드 보컬을 맡았고 극중에선 다이안 레인(Diane Lane)이 립싱크 한다. 

 

영화 제목을 브루스 스프링스틴(Bruce Springsteen)의 1978년 곡인 Streets Of Fire에서 가져왔기 때문에 엔딩곡으로 브루스의 곡을 사용하려고 했으나 제작팀은 노래가 영화와 잘 맞지 않는다는 걸 깨닫고 짐에게 새로운 곡을 요구했다. 짐은 “그래서 제가 곡을 만들었어요. 그리고 제작자인 조엘 실버(Joel Silver)에게 보냈죠. 조엘은 곡이 너무 좋다고 꼭 사용해야 한다고 말했어요. 대본은 엉망 이였지만 조엘의 열정 때문에 영화는 히트할 것 같아서 곡 작업을 했어요”라고 말했다.
