Ben – Michael Jackson / 1972

Ben은 1972년 당시 14살인 마이클 잭슨(Michael Jackson)이 발표한 곡으로 미국 1위, 캐나다 6위, 영국 7위, 아일랜드 13위에 올랐다. 솔로로서는 마이클의 첫 번째 미국 차트 1위곡이다. 골든 글로브 주제가상을 받았고 아카데미에선 후보에 올랐지만 머린 맥거번(Maureen McGovern)의 The Morning After에 밀렸다. 국내에서 이수미가 당신을 따르리란 제목으로 번안해 불렀다.

 

돈 블랙(Don Black), 월터 슈와프(Walter Scharf)가 만든 이 곡은 같은 해 개봉된 필 칼슨(Phil Carlson)이 감독한 동명의 영화 주제가다. 원래는 도니 오스몬드(Donny Osmond)를 위해 만들었지만 도니가 공연 중이라 일정을 맞추기 힘들어 돈의 요청으로 마이클에게 돌아갔다.

 

펄 잼(Pearl Jam)이 1993년 발표한 Rats에서 “Ben, the two of us need look no more” 부분이 사용되었다.
