Under The Sea – Samuel E. Wright / 1989

Under The Sea는 사뮤엘 롸잇(Samuel E. Wright)이 1989년 발표한 곡으로 론 클레멘츠(Ron Clements)와 존 머스커(John Musker)가 감독한 월트 디즈니의 28번째 애니메이션 <인어공주(The Little Mermaid)> O.S.T 수록곡이다. 1989년 아카데미 오리지널 송, 그래미 최우수 영상음악상을 받았다.

 

곡은 알란 멘킨(Alan Menken)과 하워드 애쉬먼(Howard Ashman)이 카리브 해안의 칼립소 스타일로 만들었고 둘이 프로듀서도 맡았다. 로버트 스티븐슨(Robert Stevenson) 감독의 1971년 애니메이션 <Bedknobs and Broomsticks>에 나오는 The Beautiful Briny를 기초로 만든 것이다.

 

극 중에서 세바스찬으로 등장하는 게가 용궁의 막내딸 에이리얼이 육지의 한 왕자를 살리고 온 후 육지에 대한 동경이 생기자 그러지 말라고 바다 아래가 더 좋다고 설득하는 노래다.
