Kiss Of Fire는 US 가수 조지아 깁스(Georgia Gibbs, Frieda Lipschitz, 19180817 ~ 20061209)가 1952년 발표한 곡으로 US 1위, 연말결산 11위를 기록했다.

 

토니 마틴(Tony Martin) US 6위, 토니 아덴(Toni Arden)의 버전이 14위, 빌리 엑스타인(Billy Eckstine)의 버전이 16위, 루이 암스트롱(Louis Armstrong)의 버전이 20위, 가이 롬바르디아(Guy Lombardo)의 버전이 30위에 오르는 등 원곡이 유명해 이미 전 세계적으로 잘 알려져 있었다. 이 외에도 아주 많은 가수들이 커버했다.

 

아르헨티나 뮤지션 앤젤 그레고리오 빌롤도(Ángel Gregorio Villoldo Arroyo 18610216 ~19191014)가 만든 탱고 곡이다. 원곡은 El Choclo로, 제목과 같은 이름을 가진 나이트클럽의 주인을 기리는 곡이다. 흔히 바그너 스케일이라 부르는 스타일의 곡이다. 전주만 들으면 로이 오비슨(Roy Orbison)의 1964년 곡 Oh, Pretty Woman이 떠오른다. 아마도 이 곡을 레퍼런스 한 것으로 보인다.

 

가사에서 화자는 상대의 성적인 매력에 푹 빠져서 파멸로 이르는 길이라 하더라도 감수하고 사랑하겠다고 말하고 있다. 멋진 곡이란 생각이 든다.
