Girl From Mars – Ash / 1996

Girl From Mars는 영국 북아일랜드 밴드 애쉬(Ash)가 1996년 발표한 공식 데뷔 앨범 <1977>에 수록된 곡으로 영국 11위, 아일랜드 16위에 올랐다. NME 선정 최고의 1990년대 음악 19위, 최고의 브릿팝 14위, 패이스트 같은 부분 48위를 기록했다.

 

곡은 팀 휠러(Tim Wheeler)가 16살 때 만든 곡이다. 프로듀서는 오웬 모리스(Owen Morris)가 맡았다. 제목 때문인지 미국 나사에서 통화 중 잠시 기다릴 때 나오는 음악으로 사용되었다.

 

뮤직비디오는 피터 크리스토퍼슨(Peter Christopherson)이 감독을 맡았다. 하지만 드러머 릭 매머레이(Rick McMurray)가 이 MV를 너무 너무 싫어해 미국 출시 때는 제스 페레츠(Jesse Peretz) 감독이 새 MV를 발표했다.

 

별이 다르긴 하지만 존 그레이(John Gray)의 1993년 작 <화성에서 온 남자 금성에서 온 여자(Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus)>가 생각나기도 하고 참 좋아했던 차은주의 2002년 곡 The Girl From Mars도 떠오른다.
