Let It Shine – Olivia Newton-John / 1975

Let It Shine은 올리비아 뉴튼-존(Olivia Newton-John)이 1975년 발표한 <Clearly Love>에 수록한 곡으로 캐나다 17위, 미국 30위, AC 1위, 컨트리 5위 등을 기록했다. 국내에선 진추하(陳秋霞, Chelsia Chan)의 버전도 많은 사랑을 받았다.

 

원곡은 미국 컨트리 뮤지션 린다 하그로브(Linda Hargrove, Linda Bartholomew, 1949 ~ 2010)가 만든 곡으로 1973년 발표한 자신의 <Music Is Your Mistress> 앨범에 수록한 곡이다. 올리비아의 버전은 존 파라(John Farrar)가 프로듀서를 맡았다.

 

화자의 나약해지고 좋지 않은 상황을 묘사하고 누군가의 도움을 요청하고 있다. "a woman"이라고 자신의 처지를 여성으로 일반화시켜 빗댄 것이 옳은 것인 지는 생각해 볼 문제인 것 같다.
