Ridin’ - Chamillionaire Feat. Krayzie Bone / 2005

Ridin'은 US 래퍼 카밀리어네어(Chamillionaire, Hakeem Seriki)가 2005년 발표한 데뷔 앨범 <The Sound Of Revenge>에 수록한 곡으로 US 1위, 연말결산 8위, UK와 아일랜드 각각 2위 등을 기록했다. 그래미 랩 퍼포먼스 부문을 수상했고 올해의 랩 부문 후보에도 올랐으나 루다크리스(Ludacris)의 Money Maker가 받았다. 롤링 스톤 등을 비롯해 다수의 매체에서 2006년 최고의 곡들 중 한 곡에 표를 던졌고 VH1 선정 ‘2000년대 최고의 곡’ 75위, 역대 최고의 힙합 91위 등에 올랐다.

 

카밀리어네어와 게스트로 참여한 본 턱스-앤-하모니(Bone Thugs-N-Harmony)의 크레이지 본(Krayzie Bone), 후안 살리나스(Juan Salinas), 오스카 살리나스(Oscar Salinas), 등이 만들고 프로듀서 팀 플레이-N-스킬즈(Play-N-Skillz)가 프로듀서를 맡았다.

 

뮤직비디오는 텍사스 댈러스에서 촬영했고 여러 뮤지션들이 카메오로 출연했다. 경찰 역은 영화배우 토미 리스터(Tommy Lister)가 맡았다. 경찰이 자신들의 권력을 남용하고, 그들이 용의자들을 어떻게 대하는지 보여주기 위해 레슬링 장면을 통해 사용했다. 가사에서는 플레이스테이션 조종기라고 나오지만 MV에서는 엑스박스 조종기를 만지고 있다. MTV VMA에서 랩 부문을 수상했다.

 

가사는 인종 차별 때문에 차를 몰고 다닐 때마다 경찰의 불심검문에 걸리는 일을 소재로 하고 있다. ‘riding dirty’라는 말은 차에 마약이나 다른 밀매매 품목들을 싣고 운전하는 것을 뜻한다. 매번 저렇게 심문을 당하고 마음의 준비를 해야하는 상황이 발생하면 얼마나 힘들고 답답할까 싶다.
