Another Day - Paul McCartney / 1971

 

 

 

Another Day는 폴 매카트니(Paul McCartney)가 비틀즈(The Beatles) 해체 후 내놓은 솔로 데뷔곡이다. 비틀즈의 마지막 앨범인 <Let It Be>의 녹음이 진행되는 동안 폴과 부인인 린다 매카트니(Linda McCartney)가 만들었다. 린다의 참여는 폴의 비틀즈의 저작권사에서 벗어나 저작권을 따로 관리하기 위한 포석이였다는 설이 있다. 실제로 폴은 자신의 저작권 회사를 따로 만들었다. B면은 Oh Woman, Oh Why인데 두 곡 다 이후 발표된 폴의 정규 앨범에는 실리지 않았다. 아일랜드 1위, 영국 2위, 캐나다 4위, 미국 5위에 올랐다.

 

폴의 첫 앨범 엔지니어 딕슨 밴 윙클(Dixon Van Winkle)은 “폴이 이 곡을 싱글로 내자고 말했어요. 전 이 곡을 100장 찍어 라디오 방송국에 돌렸죠. 다음날 라디오에서 이 곡이 나왔는데 베이스 부분이 빠진 것을 알았어요. 전 깜짝놀라 미친 듯이 날 뛰었죠. 근데 폴이 아무 말도 하지 않아 우린 다시 믹싱 작업을 하지는 않았어요”라고 말했다.

 

가사는 도시 직장 여성의 무미건조한 도시에서의 반복적인 생활을 통해 외로움과 고립감을 그리고 있다. '사운드 오브 파이브'는 당시 유행하던 사연 소개 라디오 프로그램이다.
