Questions - Manfred Mann's Earth Band / 1976

Questions는 UK 록밴드 맨프레드 맨스 어스 밴드(Manfred Mann's Earth Band, 이하 MMEB)가 1976년 발표한 7번째 스튜디오 앨범 <The Roaring Silence>에 수록한 곡으로 국내 라디오에서 크게 인기를 끌었던 작품이다. 

팀에서 키보드를 맡고 있던 맨프레드 맨(Manfred Mann)과 드럼을 치는 크리스 슬레이드(Chris Slade)가 만들었고 팀원 전체가 프로듀서로 참여했다. 슈베르트(Franz Schubert)의 즉흥곡인 Impromptu In G Flat Major에서 멜로디를 가져왔다.

가사는 절망이나 고통, 인생의 어려운 변곡점에서 던진 질문은 결국 자신이 알아내는 수밖에는 없다고 말하는 것 같다. 화자는 꿈 속에서 열린 문을 닫은 어떤 존재들을 만나고 그들에게 질문을 한다. 그들은 마치 소크라테스(Σωκράτης)처럼 반어법, 문답법으로 화자의 질문에 대답하고 밤 속으로 화자를 데려가 혼자 그 곳에 둔다. 스스로 생각하고 알아내도록.
