Tarzan Boy – Baltimora / 1985

Tarzan Boy는 이탈리아 밀란에서 결성한 프로젝트 그룹 발티모라(Baltimora)가 1985년 발표한 데뷔 앨범 <Living In The Background>에 수록한 곡으로 아일랜드 2위, 영국 3위, 캐나다 5위, 이탈리아 6위, 미국 13위 등을 기록했다. 당시 세련된 흥겨움을 주는 곡으로 호평을 받았고 국내에서도 많은 사랑을 받았다.

 

마우리지오 바씨(Maurizio Bassi)와 나이미 해켓(Naimy Hackett)이 만들었고 마우리지오가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 미국 소설가 에드가 버로우스(Edgar Rice Burroughs)의 캐릭터 타잔을인용해 가사를 만들었다. 타잔 특유의 목소리를 후렴구로 멋지게 부른 보컬, 북아일랜드 출신의 지미 맥셰인(Jimmy McShane, James Harry McShane 1957~ 1995)은 1995년 AIDS로 사망했다.

 

가사는 도시를 떠나 자유를 얻고 하고 싶은 대로 하고 맘껏 즐기는 삶을 그리고 있다. 실제 타잔이 사는 밀림을 그리고 있다기보다는 시골 혹은 도시가 아닌 곳을 상징적으로 표현한 것 같다.
