My Only Wish - Jessica Simpson / 2010

My Only Wish는 제시카 심슨(Jessica Simpson)이 2010년 발표한 2번째 크리스마스 앨범 <Happy Christmas>에 수록한 곡이다. 

 

제시카와 애런 피어스(Aaron Pearce), 크리스토퍼 스튜어트(Christopher "Tricky" Stewart)가 만들고 크리스토퍼와 더 드림(The Dream)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 드럼 비트도 그렇고 소재면에서도 머라이어 캐리(Mariah Carey)의 All I Want For Christmas Is You를 모방한 느낌을 준다. 크리스토퍼는 앨범과 관련한 빌보드와의 인터뷰에서 "제시카는 자신이 원하는 걸 아는 진짜 전문가예요"라고 말했다. 

가사는 이제는 흔한 소재가 된, 크리스마스에 소원으로 사랑을 원한다는 내용이다. 지금은 어린 아이들도 산타 클로스의 존재를 믿지 않는 시대가 되었기에 진짜 초월적인 존재에게 비는 내용이라기보다는, 그렇게 해서라도 사랑을 얻고 싶다는 표현으로 읽으면 될 것 같다. 어릴 때는 간혹 절대자에게 사랑을 소원하는 가사들을 볼 때, 절대자에게 소원을 빌 수 있는 자격이 생겼다고 치고, A가 B를 원한다고 빌었을 때 B는 C를 원하거나 A를 싫어하거나 미워한다면, 절대자는 어떻게 일을 처리할 지, 만약 A의 소원을 들어준다면, 사랑하지 않는 마음을 강제로 바꾸어 사랑하게 만드는 것까지 해주는 건지 궁금하기도 했던 것 같다.
