Step Into Christmas - Elton John / 1973

Step Into Christmas는 UK 뮤지션 엘튼 존(Elton John)이 1973년 발표한 싱글로 이듬해 내놓은 8번째 스튜디오 앨범 <Caribou>에, 1995년 재발매 했을 때 수록했다. 당시 UK 24위에서 2019년 8위까지 올라가며 현재 중요한 크리스마스 노래가 되었고 캐나다에선 2020년 41위, US에선 당시 캐쉬박스 56위였고 빌보드에선 크리스마스 노래를 싱글 차트에 반영하지 않아 크리스마스 노래만 따로 뽑은 차트에서 1위를 기록했다. 

 

엘튼과 버니 토핀(Bernie Taupin)이 만들고 거스 더전(Gus Dudgeon)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 라이 쿠더(Ry Cooder)가 퍼커션을 연주했다. 2005년 발매한 크리스마스 앨범 <Elton John's Christmas Party> 라이너 노트에서 엘튼은 "당시 필 스펙터(Phil Spector)가 로넷츠(The Ronettes)와 작업하던 월 오브 사운드에 대한 오마주였어요"라고 말했고 수잔 블랙(Susan Black )의 엘튼 전기 <Elton John : In HIs Worlds>에서는, "이 곡은 크리스마스에 해보고 싶은 바보같은 짓들을 다 적어 보았어요. 원래 싱글로 낼려는 의도가 전혀 없이 만든 곡이예요'라고 말했다. 

 

가사는 팬들에게 크리스마스를 함께 보내자고 말하는 내용이다. 엘튼과 버니는 한 해 동안 큰 사랑을 받은 것에 대한 고마움으로 런던 트리던트 스튜디오에서 일요일 아침에 만들었다.
