Don't Treat Me Like A Child - Helen Shapiro / 1961

 

Don't Treat Me Like A Child는 UK 재즈 뮤지션 헬렌 샤피로(Helen Shapiro 19460928)가 1961년 14살의 나이로 발표한 데뷔곡으로 UK 3위, 아일랜드 6위 등을 기록했다. 

 

존 슈로더(John Schroeder, 19350119 ~ 20170131)와 마이크 호커(Mike Hawker, 19361129 ~ 20140504)가 만들고 9인조를 밴드를 이끄는 마틴 슬래빈(Martin Slavin, 19220219 ~ 19880525)이 편곡과 프로듀서를 맡았다. 

 

가사는 10대인 화자가 어른들에게 자기 일은 자신의 생각대로 스스로 알아서 하겠으니 자신이 어리다고 명령하거나 무시하지 말라는 내용인 것 같다. 어린이가 부르는 것에 맞춰 어른들이 만든 노래라서 당시에 그렇게 현실성이 있었을지 모르겠다. 웬만큼 악에 바치지 않고서는 어릴 때 이런 생각을 하기는 쉽지 않을 것 같기 때문이다. 경험도 일천하고 환경에 지배받고 어른들의 간섭이 당연하다고 느끼는 나이라.
