Don't Mess With Bill - The Marvelettes / 1965

Don't Mess With Bill은 마벌레츠(The Marvelettes)가 1965년 발표한 컴필레이션 앨범 <The Marvelettes Greatest Hits>에 수록한 곡으로 US 7위, R&B 3위, 연말결산 74위 등을 기록했다. 

 

스모키 로빈슨(Bill Smokey Robinson)이 만들고 프로듀서도 맡았다. 완다 영(Wanda Young)이 리드 보컬을 맡고 훵크 브라더즈(Funk Brothers)가 연주를, 걸그룹 안단테즈(The Andantes)가 BG 보컬로 참여했다. 스모키는 곡의 대상에 대해, 자신의 본명을 따라 만든 게 아니라 그냥 멜로디와 발음상 잘 어울려서, 부르기 편해서 택했다고 말했다. 

 

가사는 화자, 자신이 사랑하는 빌이라는 대상은 자신의 것이니 연적들에게 빌 주변에서 얼쩡거리며 건드려보려고 하지 말고 다른 사람을 알아보라고 말하는 내용이다.
