Dandelions - Ruth B. / 2017

Dandelions은 캐나다 뮤지션 루스비(Ruth B. Ruth Berhe)가 2017년 발표한 데뷔 앨범 <Safe Haven>에 수록한 곡으로 틱톡에서 자주 사용되면서 차트에 올라 UK 42위, 캐나다 58위, 아일랜드 80위, US 109위 등을 기록했다.  

 

루스비가 만들고 뉴질랜드 출신의 프로듀서 조엘 리틀(Joel Little)이  프로듀서를 맡았다. 루스비는 나일론과의 인터뷰에서 "이 곡은 아마도 앨범에서 가장 가볍고 귀여운 노래일 거예요. 창밖을 바라보다 민들레를 보고 곡을 만들기 시작했어요. 그 몇 주 전에 시아(Sia)의 인터뷰를 봤는데요. 곡을 쓰는 가장 최고의 방법 중 하나는 주변의 예쁜 말을 고르는 거라고 말했어요. 그래서 창밖의 민들레를 봤을 때 예전에 민들레라는 말이 정말 예쁜 말이라고 생각했다는 걸 기억했어요. 그래서 곡을 만들어야만 했어요"라고 말했다.  

 

가사는 사랑하고 있는 사람이 자신의 연인이 되었으면 하는 바람을 담고 있다. 썸을 타는 중이거나 할 수도 있지만 첫줄과 둘째 줄을 보면 혼자만의 착각으로 사랑으로 하고 있을 수도 있다는 생각이 든다. 민들레에게 소원을 비는 건 서양의 오랜 전통이라고 한다. 바람이 민들레의 작은 씨앗을 쓸어내면서 멀리 날아가기 때문에, 소원이 있는 사람은 꽃에 바람을 불어 씨앗을 날리면서 이루고 싶은 소원을 말하곤 했다.
