Dreams Tonite - Alvvays / 2017

 

Dreams Tonite은 캐나다 인디밴드 올웨이즈(Alvvays)가 2017년 발표한 두 번째 스튜디오 앨범 <Antisocialites>에 수록한 곡으로 팬들에게 가장 인기 많은 곡들 중 한 곡이고 이 곡이 수록된 앨범을 그 해 다수의 매체에서 최고의 앨범들 중 하나로 꼽게 만든 원인이기도 하다. 

 

리드 기타의 알렉 오핸리(Alec O'Hanley)와 보컬의 몰리 랜킨(Molly Rankin)이 만들고 알렉과 존 코글턴(John Congleton)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 뮤직비디오는 매트 존슨(Matt Johnson)이 감독을 맡았고 1967년 몬트리올 엑스포 영상을 합성해 만들었다. 몰리는 Do512와의 인터뷰에서 "매트라는 친구가 있어요. <Nirvana The Band The Show>라는 쇼의 기획자인데요. 아주 재밌어요. 옛날 필름들을 자신과 합성하는 작업을 해 훌륭한 재미를 주는 친구죠. 알렉이 엑스포 영상과 함께 하는 걸 해달라고 했어요. 그 영상들이 굉장히 아름다웠거든요. 그걸 어떻게 풀어나가는지는 매트가 다 했어요. 대체로 그렇게 매끄럽게 나오지는 않거든요"라고 말했다. 

 

가사는 과거에 헤어진 연인과의 일들을 회상하며 오늘 길에서 그 사람을 만나면 다시 사랑할 수 있을까라는, 헤어진 연인에 대한 미련이 가득 담긴 내용을 표현하려고 한 것 같다.
