Three Steps To Heaven - 에디 코크란(Eddie Cochran) / 1960

Three Steps To Heaven은 US 록큰롤 뮤지션 에디 코크란(Eddie Cochran, Ray Edward Cochran 19381003 – 19600417) 사후 한 달 뒤에 UK에서 발매된 앨범 <The Eddie Cochran Memorial Album>에 수록된 곡으로 UK와 아일랜드에서 1위를 기록했고 노르웨이, 핀란드, 뉴질랜드 등에서도 사랑을 받았다. 데이빗 보위(David Bowie)가 <Hunky Dory> 수록곡인 Queen Bitch에서 이 곡의 기타 리프를 사용했다.

 

에디와  에디의 형 밥 코크란(Bob Cochran), 제리 케이프하트(Jerry Capehart) 등이 만들고 스너프 가렛(Snuff Garrett)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 버디 홀리(Buddy Holly)가 속한 밴드 크리켓츠(Crickets)가 세션으로 참여해 소니 커티스(Sonny Curtis)가 기타를 연주했다.

 

가사는 연인과의 사랑을 하는 게 천국에 있는 것과 같다는 의미를 담고 있다. 사랑하기 전까지의 3단계를 거치면 누구나 천국에 있을 거라고 말한다. 에디같은 사람에겐 쉬울 수도 있을 것 같긴 한데, 대다수는 1단계에서 2단계로 넘어갈 때 많은 좌절이...
