Love Theme From Romeo And Juliet - 헨리 맨시니 Henry Mancini / 1969

 

Love Theme From Romeo And Juliet는 US 작곡가 헨리 맨시니(Henry Mancini, Enrico Nicola Mancini, 19240416 ~ 19940614)가 1969년 발표한 인스트루멘탈 곡으로 US 1위, AC 8주 1위, 캐나다 1위, UK 31위 등을 기록했다. 당시 US에서 5주간 1위를 달리던 비틀즈(The Beatles)의 Get Back을 물리치고 정상을 차지했다.

 

이탈리아 작곡가 니노 로타(Nino Rota, 19111203 – 19790410)가 작곡 한 프랑코 제피렐리(Franco Zeppirelli) 감독의 1968년 영화 <로미와 줄리엣(Romeo And Juliet)>의 러브 테마를 좀 더 대중적으로 편곡한 버전이다. 영화에서는 글렌 웨스턴(Glen Weston)이 유진 월터(Eugene Walter)가 가사를 붙인 What Is A Youth를 불렀지만 대중적으로는 이 곡의 인기에 힘입어 래리 쿠직(Larry Kusik)과 에디 스나이더(Eddie Snyder)가 작사한 A Time For Us란 제목의 버전이 더 크게 인정받은 것 같다. 이 버전은 앤디 윌리암스(Andy Williams), 자니 마티스(Johnny Mathis) 등이 불렀다.

 

<로미오와 줄리엣>은 UK 작가 셰익스피어(William Shakespeare)가 지은 작품으로 몬테규와 카풀렛, 두 원수 집안의 자녀들이 집안의 반대를 무릅쓰고 비극적인 사랑을 한다는 내용이다.
