Cherry Pink (And Apple Blossom White) - Pérez Prado / 1955

Cherry Pink (And Apple Blossom White)는 ‘맘보의 왕’이란 별명을 가지고 있는 쿠바 출신의 밴드 리더 페레즈 프라도(Pérez Prado, 19161211 ~ 19890914)가 1955년 발표한 인스트루멘탈 곡으로 US 10주간 1위, UK 2주간 1위 등을 기록했다.

 

스페인 출신의 프랑스 뮤지션 루이 구글리엘미(Louis Guglielmi, Louiguy 19160403 ~ 19910404)가 곡을 짓고 자크 라루(Jacques Larue)가 가사를 쓴 샹송으로 원래 제목은 Cerisier Rose Et Pommer Blanc다. 페레즈는 1951년 원래 버전에 충실한 곡으로 발표했으나 1955년에는 맘보 버전으로 바꾸어 발표했다. 곡의 전체를 인상지우는 트럼펫은 빌리 레지스(Billy Regis)가 맡았다. 페레즈는 존 스터지스(John Sturges) 감독의 영화 <해저의 황금(Underwater!)>에 사용하기 위해 연주 버전으로 만들었고 영화에서는 US 영화배우 제인 러셀(Jane Russell)이 이 곡에 맞춰 춤을 춘다.

 

이 곡이 히트하고 이후 영어 가사 버전이 발표되어 셀 수 없이 많은 가수들이 커버했다. 영어 가사는 맥 데이빗(Mack David)이 지었다. 국내에서는 안다성이 체리핑크맘보라는 제목으로 번안해 불렀다.

 

원래 가사는 장밋빛 벚나무와 하얀 사과나무가 엉켜 있는 것을 사랑의 메타포로 사용하고 있고 영어가사에서는 체리 핑크 나무와 하얗게 핀 사과나무가 엉켜 있는 것을 상징으로 표현하고 있다.
