Chances Are - Johnny Mathis / 1957

Chances Are는 자니 마티스(Johnny Mathis)가 1957년 발표한 곡으로 이듬해 내놓은 <Johnny’s Greatest>앨범에 수록했다. US 1위, R&B 12위 등을 기록했다. 자니는 1996년 라이자 미넬리(Liza Minnelli)와 재녹음한 버전을 발표했다. 1998년 그래미 명예의 전당에 올랐다.

 

로버트 알렌(Robert Allen, 19270205 ~ 20001001)이 작곡, 알 스틸먼(Al Stillman, Albert Irving Silverman, 19010620 ~ 19790217)이 작사했고 미치 밀러(Mitch Miller)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 다수의 영화와 드라마에 사용되었다. 

 

독일의 철학자 칸트(Immanuel Kant)의 물자체를 지지하는 개인적인 성향 탓 때문인지는 몰라도, 시대와 상관없이 멋진 목소리와 잘 어우러진 훌륭한 발라드라는 생각이 든다.
