Luther - 켄드릭 라마 Kendrick Lamar & 씨저 SZA / 2024

 

Luther는 US 래퍼 켄트릭 라마(Kendrick Lamar 19870617)가 2024년 발표한 6번째 스튜디오 앨범 <GNX>에 수록한 곡으로 2025년 US 수퍼볼 공연 이후에 US 1위, 캐나다 2위, UK 4위, 아일랜드 7위, 멜론 96위 등을 기록 중이다.

 

켄드릭과 보컬에 참여한 씨저(시저, SZA, Solána Imani Rowe, 19891108), 마크 스피어스(Mark Spears) 등을 비롯해 무려 10명이 작곡 크레딧을 공유하고 마크를 비롯해 5명이 프로듀서로 참여했다. 루더 밴드로스(Luther Vandross, 19519429 ~ 20050701)와 셔릴 린(Cheryl Lynn, 19570311)이 1982년 발표한 If This World Were Mine을 샘플링 했다. 이 곡은 마빈 게이(Marvin Gaye, 19390402 ~ 19840401)가 만들고 마빈과 태미 테럴(Tammi Terrell)이 1967년 처음 발표했다. 제목은 루더를 트리뷰트 하는 의미로 지은 것같다. 

 

가사는 사랑하는 상대를 위해 무엇이든지 하고 싶은 마음을 표현하고 있다. 일부 매체에서는 "concrete flower", "get it poppin' on the low" 등으로 봐서 상대가 성노동이거나 거기에 준하는 취약계층인 것으로 해석한다. "kumbaya"는 신이 여기 함께 하길 원한다는 뜻으로 "come by here" 혹은 "come by yuh" 등을 발음한 것이다. 여기서는 화자의 애인을 힘들게 하는 대상들, 혹은 드레이크(Drake)?와 타협하지 않겠다는 표현을 위해 사용한 것 같다.
