Disco Inferno - The Trammps / 1976

Disco Inferno는 US 디스코 밴드 트램프스(The Trammps)가 1976변 발표한 4번째 스튜디오 앨범의 타이틀곡으로 캐나다 6위, US 11위, 댄스 1위, 연말결산 54위, UK 16위 등을 기록했다. 댄스뮤직 명예의 전당에 올랐다. 티나 터너(Tina Turner), 신디 로퍼(Cyndi Lauper) 등이 커버 했다.

 

르로이 그린(Leroy Green), 론 커시(Ron "Have Mercy" Kersey)가 만들고 론이 프로듀서를, 돈 레날도(Don Renaldo)가 현악과 혼 섹션 편곡을 맡았다. 처음 발표했을 때는 평범한 인기를 얻었으나 존 바담(John Badham) 감독의 1977년 영화 <토요일밤의 열기(Saturday Night Fever)> 사운드 트랙에 수록된 이후로 크게 히트했다. 지금까지도 각종 영화와 드라마, 방송 등에서 활발하게 사용되고 있다. 당시 10분 54초 버전도 아주 인기가 높았다.

 

가사는 댄스의 열기가 한창인 상황을 불타오르는 것, 불에 타 죽는 지옥에 빗대어 비유해 표현하고 있다. 제목은 존 걸러민(John Guillermin) 감독의 1974년 영화 <타워링(Towering Inferno)>에서 영감을 얻었다.
