Reet Petite - Jackie Wilson / 1957

 

Reet Petite은 US 소울 뮤지션 재키 윌슨(Jackie Wilson, 19340609 ~ 19840121)이 1957년 발표한 싱글로 이듬해 내놓은 데뷔 앨범 <He's So Fine>에 수록했다. UK 6위, US 62위 등을 기록했고 1986년 BBC 다큐멘터리 <Arena>에서 재키의 노래하는 찰흙 인형이 사용된 이후 UK와 아일랜드 1위에 올랐다. 

 

베리 고디(Berry Gordy), 빌리 데이비스(Billy Davis), 그웬 고디 푸쿠아(Gwen Gordy Fuqua)가 만들고 딕 제이콥스(Dick Jacobs)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 제목은 밴드리더 루이스 조단(Louis Jordan)이 1948년 발표한 Reet, Petite and Gone에서 힌트를 얻었다. 베리는 이 곡을 포함한 초기의 여러 히트곡들을 토대로 대출을 받아 모타운을 만들었다. 

 

가사는 멋지고(reet, fantastic), 작고 귀여운(petite, small, thin) 여자에게 반했고 사랑에 빠졌다는 내용인 것 같다. "reet"은 재즈에서 생겨난 용어라고 한다.
