Let's Groove - Earth, Wind & Fire / 1981

 

 

 

Let's Groove는 어스 윈드 앤 파이어(Earth, Wind & Fire)가 1981년 발표한 앨범 <Raise!>에 수록한 곡으로 미국, 영국 3위, 아일랜드 5위, 캐나다 7위에 올랐다. 이들의 미국 차트 마지막 10위권 곡으로 전성기의 마지막을 화려하게 불태운 곡이다. 1995년 호주 그룹 CDB가 커버했다.

 

모리스 화이트(Maurice White)와 웨인 본(Wayne Vaughn)이 만들었고 모리스가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 70년대 말과 80년대 초반 디스코에 대한 회의적인 반응과 훵크에 대한 하락세에도 아랑곳하지 않고 뚝심 있게 디스코를 기반으로 낸 곡이다. 이에 대해 모리스는 NME와의 인터뷰에서 “이 곡은 히트할 수 있는 곡에 대한 감각으로 그 기본기와 느낌에 충실했어요. 한 편의 이야기를 만드는 것 처럼요. 그래서 재즈보다 덜 정직하다고는 볼 수 없습니다. 이 곡은 정말 정직하게 ‘이봐 나와 즐기자, 이 순간을 나와 나눠’라고 말하는 곡이예요”라고 말했다.

 

첫 부분의 기계음은 보코더로 소리를 낸 것이고 앨범과 싱글의 표지는 이집트의 여신을 모델로 한 것이다.
