Yeh Yeh - Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames / 1964

 

Yeh, Yeh는 UK 피아노 뮤지션 조지 페임(Georgie Fame, 19430626)이 이끄는 블루 플레임즈(The Blue Flames)가 1964년 발표한 싱글로 UK 1위, 캐나다 1위, 아일랜드 3위, US 21위 등을 기록했다. 재즈, R&B, 팝의 조화를 이끌어 냈다며 UDM '1960년대 최고의 음악' 99위에 올랐다.

 

쿠바 퍼커션 주자 몽고 산타마리아(Mongo Santamaría)가 1963년 연주 버전으로 처음 발표했고 가사 버전은 같은 해, US 재즈 보컬팀 램버트, 헨드릭스 & 바반(Lambert, Hendricks & Bavan)이 처음 발표했다. 

 

위 팀의 존 헨드릭스(Jon Hendricks)가 가사를 지었고, 로저스 그랜트(Rodgers Grant), 팻 패트릭(Pat Patrick)이 작곡, 토니 파머(Tony Palmer)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 색소폰은 피터 코(Peter Coe)가 연주했다. 싱글 제목에 "yeh"가 4번 등장하는 거, 3번 등장하는 것들도 있다. 

 

조지는 SJF와의 인터뷰에서 "녹음하기 전 몇 주 동안 클럽에서 이 곡을 연주를 했어요. 존이 우리 버전을 듣고 전화해서 우리 것이 빨라서 좋다고 하더군요. 클럽씬에서 이미 좋은 반응을 얻어서 녹음해야겠다는 생각이 들었고 이후에는 빨리 녹음을 했죠. 이 곡의 히트로 우리의 시야가 확실히 넓어졌어요"라고 말했고 존은 이 곡의 작사와 보컬에 대해 MM과의 인터뷰에서 "제 인생에서 일어난 가장 위대한 일"이라고 말했다. 

 

가사는 사랑하는 사람과 하는 모든 일이 다 좋아서 상대가 의견을 물으면 "yeah yeah"라는 말밖에는 할 말이 없다는 내용이다.
