Sweet Memories - Ray Charles & Mary Ann Fisher / 1970

Sweet Memories는 레이 찰스(Ray Charles, 19300923 ~ 20040610)가 1970년 발표한 스튜디오 앨범 <Love Country Style>에 수록한 곡이다.

 

앤디 윌리암스(Andy Williams)가 1968년 처음 발표해 US 75위에 올랐고 윌리 넬슨(Willie Nelson)이 1979년 발표해 US 컨트리 4위 올랐다.

 

US 내쉬빌 작곡가 미키 뉴버리(Mickey Newbury, 19400519 ~ 20020929)가 작곡하고 조 애덤스(Joe Adams)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. What’d I Say 등 레이의 백업보컬로 활약하던 메리 앤 피셔(Mary Ann Fisher, 1923 ~ 2004)가 보컬로 참여했다. 레이는 메리를 위해 Mary Ann이란 곡을 만들기도 했다.

 

가사는 과거의 연인에 대한 추억으로만 살고 있는 화자에 대한 이야기다. 그 때문에 좋기도 하지만 그 날들이 다시 올 수 없어 슬프기도 하다.
