So Rare - Jimmy Dorsey / 1957

So Rare는 US 밴드리더이자 색소폰 연주자인 지미 도시(Jimmy Dorsey, James Francis Dorsey, 19040229 ~ 19570612)가 1957년 발표한 스튜디오 앨범 <The Fabulous Jimmy Dorsey>에 수록한 곡으로 US 2위, R&B 4위, 연말결산 5위, 역대결산 10위 등을 기록했다. 2009년 그래미 명예의 전당에 올랐다.

제리 허스트(Jerry Herst)가 작곡하고 잭 샤프(Jack Sharpe)가 가사를 썼다. 초창기 버전으로는 1937년 US 밴드리더 칼 라벨(Carl Ravell)의 버전과 프레드 아스테어(Fred Astaire)의 보컬 버전 등이 있다.

지미의 버전은 지미의 오케스트라가 연주하고 아티 멀빈 싱어즈(Artie Malvin Singers)가 보컬로 참여했다. 이전의 버전들과 달리 R&B 느낌을 강력하게 사용해 당시 빅밴드로서는 아마도 R&B차트에서 최초로 높은 인기를 누린 곡으로 평가받고 있다. 이 곡의 제목이 시사하는 건 실제 가사보다도 바로 여기에 있는 것 같다.

가사는 상대의 고유성과 대체불가능성에 대해 노래하고 있다.
