Rockin’ Robin - Bobby Day / 1958

Rockin’ Robin은 US 록큰롤, R&B 뮤지션 바비 데이(Bobby Day, Robert James Byrd, 19300701 ~ 19900727)가 1958년 발표한 앨범 <Rockin’ With Robin>에 수록한 곡으로 US 2위, R&B 1위 등을 기록했다. 여러 매체에서 1950년대의 중요한 곡들 중 한 곡으로 선정하고 있다.  

마이클 잭슨(Michael Jackson)이 1972년 커버해 역시 US 2위에 올랐다. B면은 1965년 데이브 클락 파이브(Dave Clark Five)의 버전으로 1위에 오른 Over And Over다.

 

지미 토마스(Jimmie Thomas, Leon René, 19020206 ~ 19820530)가 만들고 프로듀서도 맡았다. 바비의 이전 밴드인 헐리웃 플레임스(Hollywood Flames) 멤버들이 세션으로 참여했다. 색소폰 연주자 플라스 존슨(Plas Johnson)이 피콜로를 연주했다. 지미 사후에 그 누구도 저작권을 갱신하지 않아 현재 공유재가 되었다. 퍼블리싱 회사의 실수가 아니었을까 싶다.

 

가사는 오늘밤 록큰롤 공연이 예약되어 있는 화자가 나무 위의 새들에게 감정이입해, 그 새들이 마치 록큰롤을 부르며 춤추고 즐기는 것처럼 표현하고 있다.
