Enemy - Imagine Dragons X JID / 2021

Enemy는 US 록밴드 이매진 드래곤즈(Imagine Dragons)가 2021년 발표한 5번째 스튜디오 앨범 <Mercury - Act 1>에 수록한 곡으로 US 5위, 연말결산 15위, 캐나다 5위, 아일랜드 12위, UK 17위 등을 기록했다.

 

라이엇 게임의 리그 오브 레전드(League Of Legends, 이하 LOL)를 토대로 만든 넷플릭스 애니메이션 <아케인(Arcane)>의 오프닝 곡이다. 이들은 2014년 LOL 세계 챔피언십을 위해 Warriors를 만든 적이 있다. 

 

게스트 보컬로 참여한 US 래퍼 JID(Destin Choice Route), 댄 레이놀즈(Dan Reynolds) 등 이매진 드래곤즈 멤버들, 프로듀서를 맡은 매트맨 & 로빈(Mattman & Robin), 작곡가 저스틴 트랜터(Justin Tranter) 등이 함께 만들었다. JID는 인스타그램에서 "이 곡의 벌스는 몇 년 전에 써 놨던 거예요. US 래퍼 맥 밀러(Mac Miller)와 함께 만드는 어떤 곡에 사용하려고 했죠. 근데 기쁘게도 맥이 그 곡보다는 이 곡에 맞을 것다고 말해줘서 가져왔어요"라고 말했다. 

 

가사는 자신을 추앙하기도 했던 존재들이 자신의 추락을 보고 적이 되는 것에 일종의 복수를 준비하는 내용인 것 같다. 댄은 보도자료에서 "이 곡은 자기 자신마저도 신뢰할 수 없다고 느끼는 세계에서 내적 갈등을 조정하는 것에 관한 내용이예요. <아케인>에서 다른 길을 가는 두 자매의 갈등에 기초하고 있죠.  그 시리즈처럼 개인적인 것이기도 하고 분열을 일으키는 것처럼 보이는 사회에 대한 비판을 의미하기도 해요"라고 말했다
