Round And Round - 래트(Ratt) / 1984

Round And Round는 US 헤비메탈 밴드 래트(Ratt)가 1984년 발표한 데뷔 앨범 <Out Of The Cellar>에 수록한 곡으로 US 12위, 연말결산 87위, 캐나다 16위 등을 기록했고 VH1 선정 '1980년대 최고의 곡' 51위, '역대 최고의 하드록' 61위, 롤링스톤 선정 '역대 최고의 헤비메탈 노래' 20위 등에 올랐다.

 

팀의 보컬 스티븐 피어시(Stephen Pearcy), 기타의 워렌 드마티니(Warren DeMartini), 기타의 로빈 크로스비(Robbin Crosby, 19590804 – 20020606) 등이 만들고 뷰 힐(Beau Hill)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 워렌은 처음에 이 밴드 소속이 아니었고 룸메이트였던 잭 리(Jack E. Lee)가 이 팀 소속이었다. 잭이 팀을 떠나 오지 오스본(Ozzy Osbourne)에 합류하자 워렌이 팀에 들어왔고 스티븐, 로빈과 함께 한 집에서 지내며 곡을 만들었다. 그곳이 헐리웃에 있는 래트맨션이었다. 스티븐은 송팩츠와의 인터뷰에서 "우린 카세트 테이프를 앞 뒤로 돌려가며 워렌이 '여기 기타가 들어가야 돼'라고 말하면 연주하고 그런 후 로빈이 다른 부분을 연주하고 그렇게 해서 계속 테이프를 옮겨가며 데모를 만들었어요. 이 곡은 꽤 빨리 만든 것 같아요"라고 말했다. 처음에는 브릿지가 없었다. 이에 이 곡이 앨범의 중심이라 생각한 뷰는 브릿지를 넣어야 한다고 주장했고 뒤에 "you'd put an arrow through my heart" 부분과 "I knew right from the start..." 부분을 넣었다. 

 

이들은 뮤직비디오를 만들어 MTV 시장에 편승했다. MV는 돈 레츠(Don Letts)가 감독을 맡았고 US 배우이자 코미디언인 밀튼 벌(Milton Berle)과 US 배우 리사 딘(Lisa Dean)이 출연했다. 

 

가사는 떠나려는 상대에게 시간을 주면 돌고 돌아 자신에게고 올 거라고 말하는 내용인 것 같다. 스티븐은 위의 인터뷰에서 "거리로 나와 거기서 만나자'는 내용은 우리 밴드와 팬들에 관한 거예요. 우리가 준비할 테니 오라고 하는. 우리들이 하는 일이 그런 거니까요"라고 말했다.
