Jenny From The Block - Jennifer Lopez / 2002

Jenny From The Block은 제니퍼 로페즈(Jennifer Lopez)가 2002년 발표한 3번째 스튜디오 앨범 <This Is Me... Then>에 수록한 곡으로 캐나다 1위, UK, US 3위, 연말결산 55위, 아일랜드 12위 등을 기록했다.

 

제니퍼를 비롯한 10여명의 뮤지션들이 저작권자로 등록되어 있고 트로이 올리버(Troy Oliver), 코리 루니(Cory Rooney), 포크 & 톤(Poke & Tone) 등이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 래퍼 잭애스(Jadakiss)와 스타일스(Styles)가 게스트 보컬로 참여했다. 20th 센츄리 스틸 밴드(20th Century Steel Band)의 Heaven And Hell Is On Earth, 부기 다운 프로덕션즈(Boogie Down Productions)의 South Bronx, 에노크 라잇(Enoch Light)의 Hi-Jack 등을 샘플링 했다. 뮤직비디오는 프랜시스 로렌스(Francis Lawrence)가 감독을 맡았고 당시 제니퍼의 애인 이였던 벤 애플렉(Ben Affleck)이 출연했다.

 

가사에서 화자는 자신의 뿌리를 강조하며 힘들었던 시절을 잊지 않고 소문이나 타인의 시선에 상관하지 않고 자기 자신이 되겠다고 말하고 있다. 하지만 일각에서는 흙수저 코스프레라는 비판도 있었다.
