Red Hot - Billy "The Kid" Emerson / 1955

Red Hot은 US R&B 록큰롤 뮤지션 빌리 더 키드 에머슨(Billy "The Kid" Emerson)이 1955년 발표한 곡으로 차트에 오르지는 못했지만 록큰롤 팬들에게 꾸준하게 관심을 받으면서 사라지지 않고 살아남아 지금은 다수의 매체에서 최고의 록큰롤 곡들에 포함 될 정도로 역사가 있는 노래가 되었다.

  

빌리가 만들고 선 레코드 창업자 샘 필립스(Sam Philips)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 주엘 브리스코(Jewell Briscoe)와 모세스 리드(Moses Reed)가 테너 색소폰을, 캘빈 뉴본(Calvin Newborn)이 기타를 연주했다. 

 

가사는 화자의 애인을 자랑하는 내용이다. "돈은 없지만"이라고 말하는 부분이 자본주의에서 배금주의와 물신주의가 일반화된 상황에서 어쩌면 적절한 변명처럼 느껴지기도 하고 사랑으로 자본주의에 맞서는 소시민들의 일반적인 모습 같기도 하다. "doodley- squat"이란 표현은 바꿔 말하면 돈이 없으면 하찮아보인다는 말인 것 같다.
