Protect Ya Neck - Wu-Tang Clan / 1993

Protect Ya Neck은 US 힙합 그룹 우탱 클랜(Wu-Tang Clan)이 1993년 발표한 <Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)>에 수록한 곡으로 롤링 스톤 선정 역대 최고의 힙합 72위, 피치포크 선정 1990년대 최고의 곡 200 중 5위 등에 올랐다.

 

팀 멤버 9명 모두가 작곡에 참여했고 RZA(Prince Rakeem)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. 우탱의 곡들은 작곡가가 많아 곡을 사용하기 위해서 일일이 다 허락을 얻어내는 일이 보통이 아니라는 소문이 있다.  

 

원래는 1992년 싱글 Protect Ya Neck/After The Laughter Comes Tears로 발매되었다가 언더그라운드에서 인기를 좀 얻자 라우드사와 계약을 맺고 1993년 B면을 Method Man으로 장착하고 재발매 되었다. 원래 버전과는 비트도 다르고 멤버들이 참여한 순서도 다르다. 이들이 2000년 발표한 세 번째 앨범 <The W>에선 또 다른 버전인 Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)을 수록했다. 

 

시작의 대화는 라디오 프로그램에 청취자가 전화를 걸어 곡을 신청하는 내용으로 되어 있다. 이것을 실제 우탱 클랜 멤버들이 참여했던 프로그램인 것으로 알려졌다.
