Clumsy - Fergie / 2006

Clumsy는 퍼기(Fergie, Stacey Ferguson)가 2006년 발표한 데뷔 앨범 <The Dutchess>에 수록한 곡으로 캐나다 4위, US 5위, 아일랜드 17위, UK 62위 등을 기록했다. <The Dutchess>에서 5번째 US 10위권 히트곡으로 이 기록은 폴라 압둘(Paula Abdul)의 1988년 앨범 <Forever Your Girl> 이후 여성 뮤지션으로서는 처음이다.

 

퍼기, 윌.아이.엠(will.i.am)이 만들고 윌.아이.엠이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 리틀 리처드(Little Richard)의 Girl Can’t Help It을 샘플링 해, 이 곡의 작곡가 바비 트룹(Robert Wesley Troup Jr. 19181018 ~ 19990207)도 저작권을 얻었다. 또한 지미 스파이서(Jimmy Spicer)의 Bubble Punch에 나오는 "똑 똑" 소리가 나는 블리핑 비트를 차용했다. 뮤직비디오는 마크 웹(Marc Webb)과 리치 리(Rich Lee)가 감독을 맡았고 스웨덴 모델 알렉스 룬드퀴비스트(Alex Lundqvist)가 출연했다. 퍼기는 인터뷰와의 인터뷰에서 “1960년대 팝을 현대화한 것 같아요. 전 샹그릴라즈(Shangri-Las)처럼 작은 연설을 하죠. 그건 그 시대에 대한 오마쥬예요”라고 말했다. 아리아나 그란데(Ariana Grande)가 저스틴 비버(Justin Bieber)의 Die In Your Arms를 커버할 때 이 곡의 내레이션 부분을 사용했다.

 

사랑에 빠져 정신을 차리지 못하겠다는 내용이다. 퍼기는 에이지와의 인터뷰에서 “이 노래에서 말하고 있듯이 전 한 사람과 진지하게 사귀는 타입 이예요. 문란한 것과는 거리가 있죠. 그렇다고 영안실에서 살아야 한다는 의미는 아니예요. 제가 가진 섹스에 대한 관심을 활용하면서 즐기는 걸 좋아하거든요”라고 말했다.
