Summer's Over - Rialto / 1998

Summer's Over는 리알토(Rialto)가 1998년 발표한 셀프타이틀 앨범에 수록한 곡으로 UK 60위를 기록했다. 국내에서도 리알토 팬들의 많은 사랑을 받은 곡들 중 한 곡이라는 생각이 든다. 

 

리드 보컬의 루이스 엘리엇(Louis Eliot)이 만들고 자니 불(Jonny Bull)이 프로듀서를 맡았다. 뮤직비디오는 앵거스 지오르기(Angus Giorgi)가 감독과 편집을 맡았고 UK 브리튼에서 촬영했다. 

 

가사는 화자와 연인이 여름에 바닷가로 여행왔던 곳을 헤어진 후에 화자 혼자 다시 찾아와 둘의 관계에 대한 그리움을 표현하고 있는 것 같다. 여름과 사랑했던 때는 동치다. 따라서 여름이 지났다는 건 사랑이 끝난 걸로 바꿔서 표현할 수 있을 것 같고 멀리 여행왔던 것은 둘의 관계성이 깊어진 것을 표현한 것 같다. 그러니까 화자는 혼자 다시 그곳을 찾으면서 "왜 이렇게 멀리까지 온 거지?"라고 물리적 거리에 대한 자문을 하고 예전에 상대가 "우린 너무 멀리 오지 말았어야 했어"라고 둘의 깊은 관계(심리적 거리)에 대한 대한 후회를 곱씹는다.
