The Killer - Kevin Costner & Modern West Feat. Jaida Dreyer / 2020

Wide OpenThe Killer는 US 영화배우 케빈 코스트너(Kevin Costner)와 케빈이 이끄는 밴드 모던 웨스트(Modern West)가 2020년 발표한 곡으로 파라마운트 OTT 드라마 시리즈 <옐로우스톤(Yellowstone) 2부 6편 - Blood The Boy>에 사용되었고 사용된 곡들을 모아 낸 앨범 <Tales From Yellowstone>에 수록되었다.  

 

캐나다 출신의 컨트리 가수 제이다 드레이어(Jaida Dreyer)가 만들고 게스트 보컬로도 참여했다. 테디 모건(Teddy Morgan)과 팍 치좀(Park Chisolm)이 프로듀서를 맡았다.   

 

가사는 인간 내에 존재하는 어쩔 수 없는 생존본능에 대한 이야기인 것 같다. 내가 살기 위해 남을 죽여야 하는. 드라마에서는 사냥을 처음 해 보는 아이가 아버지와 할아버지와 함께 사슴을 잡고, 사슴을 죽인 것에 대해 슬퍼하자, 아버지는 "살기 위해 죽이는 것"이라며 사냥을 합리화하자, 아이는 "그럼 우리도 누군가가 죽이냐"고 묻는다. 이에 할아버지는 "우리도 누군가, 무엇인가가 죽일 거야. 그게 박테리아일 수도 있고..."라고 말한다. 올드뮤직에 따르면 제이다는 상처만 주는 파괴적인 사랑의 관계에서 영감을 얻었다고 한다.
