Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers / 1974

Saturday Night은 스코틀랜드 출신의 팝록 그룹 베이 시티 롤러스(Bay City Rollers)가 1974년 발표한 첫 번째 정규앨범 <Rollin'>에 수록된 곡으로 캐나다와 미국에서 1위에 올랐다. 신기하게도 당시 이들은 영국에서 줄곧 히트곡을 터트렸는데 미국에서 유일한 1위곡인 이 곡만 영국 차트에 올리지 못했다. 라몬스(Ramones) Blitzkrieg Bop에 영향을 준 것으로 알려져 있다. 우리나라의 토요일에 관련된 노래들에게도 정서적인 영향을 끼치지 않았을까 싶다.

 

곡은 빌 마틴(Bill Martin)과 필 코울터(Phil Coulter) 작곡팀이 만들었고 프로듀서도 맡았다. 레스 맥퀀(Les McKewon)이 맡은 이 곡은 이들의 두 번째 버전이다. 첫 버전은 노비 클락(Nobby Clark)이 있던 1973년 녹음 했으나 별 반응을 얻지 못했다.
